An Oscar-nominated actor has warned MPs that plans to create a Children’s Commissioner for England do not go far enough. Emily Watson, star of Gosford Park, told a House of Commons’ reception that the commissioner would be ineffective because he would not be independent of ministers. The job would be little more than “children’s listener”, she said.
