I am writing because of a problem that I and many other newly qualified teachers (NQTs) face in searching for our initial vacancy. Many of the ads in your paper neglect to mention that they are solely for experienced teachers, or that experienced teachers are preferred.

This involves us, the would-be entrants to the profession, in often fruitless expenditure of 75p per application. This burden could be lifted quite easily.

What I would like to propose is a symbol system, say of a Q inside a square. One Q would mean that NQTs are considered but experience is preferred, two would indicate a position of equal treatment, and three a position where NQTs are themselves preferred.
