A SURVEY of 150 social service departments by the Social Services Inspectorate showed that nearly 2,500 children are waiting to be adopted from local authority care and 1,297 families have been vetted and cleared to adopt, but have not been matched with a child. A cross-party group of MPs is proposing to pay families up to pound;150 a week to adopt a child.
