I note with growing alarm the vast number of advertisements for newly created literacy-consultant posts which education authorities have placed in your pages in response to the Government’s literacy initiative. Could someone please reassure me that this is a sensible use of scarce resources at a time when it is far from clear that the crisis of underfunding in our schools is being resolved?

I would also welcome an explanation of how removing such a large number of our most able specialists from the classroom will assist us at a time where the shortage of teacher supply is becoming more of a problem each year.
