SHOP assistants who sell alcohol to minors can be prosecuted, under new legislation.
A private member’s Bill, likely to be passed unopposed by Parliament, closes a legal loophole exposed by the death of a 14-year-old who was killd racing across a busy road after buying alcohol from an off-licence.
The staff who served him could not be prosecuted because only the licence-holder of the shop was legally liable for ensuring customers were over 18.
