NURSERY nurses on the march in Glasgow last week are obviously doomed to fail in their pay campaign if they continue to adopt old football chants.
One of the ditties was a version of the song that saw the Scottish football team and supporters (aka “Ally’s army”) on the way to a prematurely triumphalist World Cup in Argentina in 1978 - “We’re on the march with nursery nurses”.
Perhaps “we’re on the march with Carol’s army” might have been rhythmically more pleasing, to mark the leadership of Carol Ball, Unison’s nursery nurse supremo.
We hope the little marching tune will not lead to history repeating itself.
Otherwise, it will be head in the hands time before they know it.
