As part of its worldwide celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Amnesty International will be launching a series of competitions for young people in the New Year.

Children aged 7-11 will be asked to submit a black-and-white picture illustrating a right or freedom guaranteed in the Declaration; 12-15s will be challenged to write a poem inspired by one of the Declaration’s articles. For 16-18s the task will be to rewrite a version of the Declaration in any form - words, symbols, music, rap, a programme for the Worldwide Web, a cartoon or film.

Amnesty hopes to publish a book and produce an exhibition of the entries. For details contact Amnesty’s education department on 0171 814 6200 or try their Web site: http:oneworld.orgamnesty
