There’s an old saying in journalism that a good story is one which somebody doesn’t want to see published. I suppose this must mean a bad story is one which is offered to you by a public relations company. Not sure this is strictly true, to be fair, but not bad as a rule of thumb. Of course, news values are different in PR, where a good story is one which says nice things about your client. So it will be interesting to see which yarns make the grade in the PR industry’s awards for “the best in education journalism in the UK”. Entries for the award are being offered by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, no less. A bit like the gamekeeper announcing the best poacher award for the trespasser who manages to bag the most pheasants.
