I read with astonishment the story of Patricia Davies and her battle with the GTC (“I went through three years of hell to clear my name”, May 21).

The GTC has destroyed this teacher’s career and put her in debt. The education quangos should be the first victims of reducing the #163;163 billion deficit and the GTC should be at the top of the list.

We have a brand new Government and an Education Secretary who is very much his own man. There has never been a better time to change the nature of the representation of the teaching profession. I believe the vast majority of teachers would welcome it.

Tony Callaghan, Director of Teachers in Classrooms (TiC), Alpington, Norfolk.
