Fife has “deplored” the Government’s decision to opt out of the European Union’s milk subsidy scheme for secondary school children and for all school catering, which takes effect at Easter (page nine). A report to yesterday’s meeting of the region’s schools subcommittee puts the value of the subsidy at Pounds 97,000.

The report suggests that the move would undermine the council’s policy of providing “nutritional meals at affordable prices”.
