* Anglican secondaries in London are to train their own teachers in a bid to counter the continuing recruitment crisis in the capital.
Eleven of the London diocesan board’s secondaries are involved in setting up a school-centred training scheme, which it is hoped will have places for 36 graduates.
They include St David and St Katherine in Haringey, expected to become the first city academy if it launches on schedule this autumn.
The consortium hopes to start work in September 2002. Recruits do not have to be Christians.
