AS a PGCE secondary student who is “dedicated and likely to remain in teaching”, I cannot describe how angry Sylvia Howieson’s letter (TES, April 7) made me.

With what authority does she make the claim that BEd students are more dedicated than those on a PGCE? I am sure that I am not the only one whose hackles rose at being labelled like this.

I had three yers of poverty when undertaking my degree course, went to work and then decided to go back to university to study. Is that not dedicated enough then? A great many of my fellow students have left jobs that are much better paid than teaching. What does this say for them?
