Three animated films by Glasgow pupils, including asylum seekers, were shown at the Glasgow Film Theatre earlier this month. The films have now been packaged as a video, entitiled Going Global, and distributed to every school in the city.
Pupils from Castlemilk High, All Saints’ Secondary and St Paul’s Primary in Whiteinch produced the storylines, animation and music.
The Mercurial Welcome, by Castlemilk High, features a panel deliberating over who should be allowed to live on a new planet and the reasons behind their choices, echoing the experiences of refugees applying for asylum. In Culture United, All Saints’ Secondary pupils look at how sport and music can help to bridge the cultural divide. The St Paul’s Primary pupils talk about Favourite Things, from mobile phones to Irish dancing and sunflowers in Afghanistan.
The video is being distributed with an education pack of classroom activities. The package was funded by Glasgow City Council and made with the help of Scottish based animators Jonathan Charles and Simon Bloomfield of the D fie foe company.
