YOUR reply from the Department for Education and Employment about the “features” of the online threshold application form designed to keep responses succinct (TES, June 9) does not match its reply to my e-mail commenting on its unworkability.

The reply, from Steve Palmer (whose name appears on the down-loaded form), states: “I can assure you that we are looking into the matter and will ensure that these dificulties do not arise again next year.”

This implies there were failings rather than intentionally small boxes. The boxes problem was nothing compared to the problems encountered when a new page was inadvertently produced after pressing tab.

I hope that I do not have to find out whether they have resolved the problems next year.
