I HAVE seen it again so it must be true (TES, February 19). Five AS-levels in the first year of sixth form.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t this the same workload as five A-levels in two years - for everybody? Most students I know find three enough of a struggle.
Add to this the increase from 40 to 50 per cent of an A-level for an AS-level syllabus and the words quart and pint pot come to mind.
Have I missed something? Perhaps the five-term year is to be accompanied by the eight-day week? What the heck - it has got to be good for business.
