AoC's seven steps to improving inspections

Inspectorate empowered to offer advice and support during the inspection process .

A genuinely common inspection framework and processes for all post-14 education and training.

Colleges to be judged against similar colleges rather than those with a very different profile.

Ways of measuring the "value added" to all learners on all courses are developed, as well as recognition of partial achievement.

Lighter touch inspection for those colleges where the quality of provision is consistently high.

Greater use of institutional self assessment and other documentary evidence from auditors, the LSC and student surveys.

Grades for leadership and management to be consistently applied to reflect improvements in student success.
