The Diary tries not to report mistakes with apostrophes as such howlers are sadly frequent. Recent escapees from ridicule include the independent school Malvern College, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and Tory education spokesman Graham Brady. But it must mention Teacher Training Agency official Hugh Baldry. In an invitation to a conference, he notes:

“This conference will bring together heads’ (sic) of training schools, managers’ (sic) of SCITTs and senior managers’ (sic) of HEIs.” A full literacy hour for that man!
