Appalled by table of decline

I was appalled to see in the The TES performance tables pull-out the Commiserations listing of the 100 schools showing the biggest decline.

To spend time collating and analysing statistics in order to produce such a table, never mind publishing it, is the role not of quality newspaper but of a tabloid rag.

Is anyone at The TES aware of the damage that such an irresponsible act can have on a school? There could be a multitude of legitimate reasons why a school’s five A-C grades have fluctuated or gone down over a four-year period. To label 100 schools as “showing the biggest decline” is sensationalist and unfair to those establishments.

I and a number of my headteacher colleagues in Bristol are angry and disappointed with The TES for this negative, biased, fatuous journalism.
