Appeals on the rise

More parents are appealing against primary schools’ refusal of admission for their children. In 2005-06 14,930 appeals were heard, compared with 13,600 the previous year. More than one in three appeals (36 per cent) were successful. However, just fewer than one in five parents were successful in getting their child into an infant class, which legislation limits to 30 pupils.
