An apple a day

Czech experts have questioned whether government plans to give free fruit and vegetables to schoolchildren will improve their health and reduce obesity. Doctors say the scheme will not work because Czech children dislike fruit, according to the daily newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes. The fruit is being introduced under the European Commission's School Fruit Scheme. The UK did not sign up to the scheme, but Scottish pupils already receive free fruit in P1-2.
