Applications for PGCE secondary courses have increased by nearly 50 per cent since the ann-ouncement of the salary, Government figures revealed this week. Since March 31, 8,750 applications have been made, against 5,920 in the same period last year.
However, the training salarie which are only for postgraduates, continue to cast a long shadow over the four-year Bachelor of Education degree. Institutions in the North-west are seeking to negotiate reductions in the numbers of undergraduates they recruit in exchange for an increase in postgraduates.
