Children in the Middle East are to get books tackling controversial issues such as abuse and drug-taking for the first time.
The publisher, Jordanian writer Dr Margo Malatjalian, said it was time Arabic children’s books tackled difficult subject matter.
“Kids are exposed to a lot of information their parents don’t know about,”
she said. “Arabic books need to wake up to contemporary issues.”
The books include titles such as My Friend the Rubbish Man, which encourages children to be courteous to manual labourers.
