THE next Archbishop of Canterbury has criticised school league tables for creating a "spiral of failure". Dr Rowan Williams, who succeeds Dr George Carey in October, believes league tables condemn less able pupils to an inferior education because the most successful schools attract the best resources and the brightest children. Dr Williams has also spoken out against the "premature sexualisation of children by a consumer society".
