I would like to express my concern at the article “Ministerial meddling at heart of Richard Rose crisis, new head claims” (October 9).

Nasen is disappointed that the context of Mr Gibbons’ remarks was not included, as this would have been a more accurate depiction of an inspiring and positive speech from a highly respected member of the education community.

Mr Gibbons was invited to speak at the Nasen conference to share his views of collaborative leadership, a system he believes in passionately and one he feels will support all pupils in their educational journey.

He spoke honestly and openly about the challenges and opportunities for bringing schools together and of the concerns and issues this raises among staff, parents, pupils and the wider community.

The article suggested his comments apportioned blame. In reality, they were used to illustrate the opportunities that exist for successful collaboration with colleagues and ministers and how the challenges that were faced were overcome by using this inclusive approach.
