When sixth-year student Nichola McAtier left Saint Andrew’s Academy in Paisley to study law at Glasgow University, she knew she had some unfinished business with her alma mater. For, as well as being a budding lawyer, Nichola was also a talented art student. One project she had started at school was a grand-scale copy of “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci.

“This is one of my favourite paintings and I wanted to reproduce the grandeur of the original,” says Nichola. “To achieve this, it had to be on the same scale as da Vinci’s masterpiece. So I divided the painting up into 96 1 foot by 1 foot-square sections and started copying.

“The project remained unfinished when I left Saint Andrew’s to start my law degree. However, at the end of my first year at university, I had some time on my hands and contacted my former teacher, Felix Daly. He suggested I complete “The Last Supper”. It took several weeks. I was delighted the school wanted to mount the picture and I’m very proud it hangs in the dining area. Saint Andrew’s was a special part of my life, and this is my way of saying thank you.”
