The first artist-in-residence for Holyrood Park is being sought to help schools and community groups make the most of this inspirational setting in Edinburgh.

Once venerated as the home of pagan gods and dominated by the ragged remains of an ancient volcano, Holyrood Park, below, has plenty to fire the artistic imagination, say Historic Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage, who are funding the post.

The 17-week project will kick off with rangers introducing a dozen groups of adults and children to the history, archaeology, ecology and geology of the park. These groups will then work with the artist to create imaginative and interesting art, which will be displayed in an exhibition at the park’s education centre. The artist will help individuals and groups with ideas for works and develop their skills to make them a reality - whether it’s a picture, sculpture or something else entirely.
