Firing the Imagination, published recently by the Scottish Arts Council, illustrates how Scotland’s arts bodies are contributing to the delivery of the new 3-18 curriculum.

Joan Parr, head of education at the SAC, said: “We are passionate in our belief that working in and through the arts has a powerful role in helping to enable all children and young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.”

The publication looks at work taking place - from Develop Craft Ayrshire, a project that supports the local craft sector, to the Scottish Sculpture Workshop’s school residency programme. Guidance is available on how to set up projects.

Ronnie Ross, headteacher of Kirkland High School and Community College, Fife, writes in the foreword: “This... clearly demonstrates that creative learning opportunities for young people in Scotland can significantly enhance the curriculum.”
