A conference on The Art of Learning is being held next week in Glasgow, organised by the city council with the Scottish Arts Council.

Following SAC chairman James Boyle’s call last week for more arts funding and greater recognition of the arts’ role in children’s lives, the conference at the Tramway Theatre on September 5-6 offers teachers the chance to discover how they can explore the arts at all levels of education.

Key speakers will be Elaine Murray, the depute minister for tourism, culture and sport; Professor John MacBeath, chair of educational leadership at Cambridge University, and Professor Kenneth Robinson, senior adviser to the John Paul Getty Trust and former professor of arts education at Warwick University.

Delegates can opt for a variety of workshops covering music, drama, dance and visual arts and visit venues across the city.

The conference management co-ordinator is Anne-Marie Stewart, tel 0141 341 0806, e-mail annemarie.stewart1@btopenworld.com.
