Pupils were now performing at or above the national average in every subject, Mr Linklater said. "It gave them something they had hitherto lacked completely: the realisation that they too had something to contribute, and a peer group ready to applaud them."
THE CHAIRMAN of the Scottish Arts Council says that the arts have a significant role to play in raising achievement. Magnus Linklater spoke of an "inspirational" visit to a south London school which had been transformed through intensive opportunities for the pupils to perform on stage and work with musicians, artists and writers.
