Shambellie House Museum of Costume in New Abbey, Dumfries, is exhibiting until June 27 some of the hats and dresses worn by Gertrude Shilling to the annual Royal Ascot horse races. All the hats were made by Mrs Shilling’s son, David, who designed his first show stopper in 1966, when he was 12.
