The Good Childhood Inquiry, the first independent such investigation, was launched this week by The Children’s Society. It aims to create a greater understanding of childhood in the 21st century in Britain, where children’s well-being is judged the lowest in Europe. The inquiry, chaired by Lord Layard, emeritus professor at the London School of Economics, will identify issues facing today’s youngsters. Its findings will be published in 2008.
