Remembering 911

Lauranorah’s PowerPoint includes images of the events of 11 September 2001 and its aftermath. It’s an emotional introduction to remembrance and helping others.

Primary: Ask pupils to discuss how they think people survived the collapse of the World Trade Center. In what other situations might people need help?

Secondary: What do pupils think would be a fitting memorial to 911? Look at images of the monument on the site of the World Trade Center and hold a memorial service.

For older students, discuss issues of memory and the controversial placement of a Christian cross on the World Trade Center site. Ask them to consider what issues the creators of national memorials have to consider.
