Remembrance Day (11 November)

Help pupils to understand why we have two minutes of silence to honour those who have died in wars, with a PowerPoint from michelle.mearns.

The presentation describes how Remembrance Day came about - when King George V initiated a two-minute silence for the first anniversary of the end of the First World War. It explains why we wear poppies and what the British Legion is. There is also a poem about poppies, by John McCrae - great for encouraging reflection and remembrance.
