* The Association of Educational Psychologists is urging members to have their say over proposals to extend the profession’s basic training. The Government is to set up a working group on the future role of educational psychologists. It will also look at the vexed issue of training.

They are currently drawn from the ranks of qualified and practising teachers, and must complete a degree in psychology and a year-long “applied” masters course. Pressure has been building to extend post-graduate training to a three-year doctoral qualification.
