Round one of the elections for the board of the new further education super-association has gone to the Association for Colleges.

Two seats on the board of the new body, provisionally named the Assocation of British Colleges, have gone to members of the AFC council who stood unopposed.

The sixth-form colleges’ representative will be Nick Brown, principal of Oldham Sixth Form College, while the Welsh seat will be taken by Huw Evans, principal of Llandrillo College.

The AFC-linked “Fresh Start” group and the six principals on the Association of Principals of Colleges slate have all committed themselves to appointing a chief executive for the new body though open advertisement.

Voting for the board starts next week. Ruth Gee, AFC chief executive, and her Colleges’ Employers’ Forum counterpart Roger Ward are the only declared candidates.

APC president Ben Bennett, principal of Aylesbury College, said: “We believe the sector will want an open, transparent process in order to move forward. ”
