Kim Skinner of Larbert High school made history at last weekend’s BAE Systems Scottish Schools’ Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth. With pole vault introduced for under-14 girls for the first time at the championships, Kim was the only entrant.

Morag McLarty of Perth High has an outside chance of qualification for the European JuniorChampionships in Italy next month. McLarty, aged 15, who competes at 800 metres and 1,500 metres, is one of the brightest prospects in schools athletics.

However, Morag may face a difficult choice of sports career before long. She is also rated highly in football and is a member of Scotland’s under-16 schoolgirls’ football team.
