Attack on culture of 'cool'

Action is needed to prevent pupils and parents succumbing to a "culture of cool" which puts greater importance on wearing the right clothes than doing well at school, the NUT said this week.

The union called for classes to teach parents to help their children resist pressure from business and their peers.

Steve Sinnott, the NUT's general secretary, said: "We want to create a culture that what is right or cool is coming into school prepared to work."
