Teaching styles and lessons remain the keys to raising attainment and continuing professional development is the way to improve classroom practice, Carolyn Hutchinson, head of assessment in the Scottish Executive, told the conference.

“If what is happening in classrooms is working well, children will learn better and attainment will rise,” she said.
