ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER. By Geoffrey Kewley. LAC pound;12.50.
Jackie Harrop on recent books for teachers and parents
The most informative guide to this disorder I have seen, with plenty of practical advice. It has particularly clear sections on identification, exemplified by case studies. and discusses variations resulting from individual differences and links with other disorders such as Tourette’s. It is also good on the links with later criminality. It recommends a multi-faceted approach, and is clear about the benefits and side-effects of medication. Very useful for parents and professionals - it is practical, and highlights the importance of social inclusion for these difficult children.
