THE Electoral Commission has launched a design competition aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds to encourage young people to vote. The competition, organised with the Royal Society for the Arts and the Royal College of Arts, is part of the Electoral Commission’s voter awareness campaign. Entrants will produce a design on the theme of “Votes Are Power” and the winning design will feature in the commission’s forthcoming UK-wide advertising campaign. Details will be distributed to schools, colleges and universities.

Short-listed designs will be exhibited at the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont and the RSA. The winner and two runners-up will win an Apple ibook and a work placement with a leading creative agency. The overall winning design will be exhibited to MPs at Westminster in April 2003 and will feature in the Electoral Commission’s voter awareness advertising campaign. For details, see www.votesarepower.com. Entrants should register by January 31, 2003 and the closing date for entries is February 17, 2003.
