ROYAL SOCIETY OFCHEMISTRY AWARDS John Dexter, a senior teacher and head of sixth form at Trinity School, Aspley, Nottingham, has won the 1998 RSC Award for Chemical Education for “his enthusiasm and excellence as a teacher and the breadth of his contributions to chemical education”. He received a silver medal and pound;500.

YOUNG PERSON OFTHE YEAR AWARD The Chemical Industries Association has named the 1999 winner as James Stephenson, a 25-year-old process engineer at Dow Corning, Barry, South Glamorgan. The judges were impressed by his commitment to educating the public about the positive aspects of the industry through active involvement with the schools link programme, the Responsible Care initiative and universities.
