PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION Annabel Chapman, Kate Daplyn and Laura Turner, Year 10 students at The Red Maids’ School, Wesbury-on-Trym, Bristol, won the National Cup, pound;40 book tokens and pound;500 for their school in the national finals of this English-Speaking Union competition. Topics debated included “Newspaper moguls have too much power” and “The EU is falling apart”.
CHILDREN’S PARLIAMENT Erika Jones and Harry Perry-Lewis from Year 6 at Heathlands School, St Albans, Hertfordshire, have become the first deaf members of the Children’s Parliament following a national competition. They will pose a question about deaf children to three ministers at the Houses of Parliament on May 25.
