APART from selling the message to employers and sending the report to all schools, seminars are planned in the spring to which the enterprise agencies will be invited as well as the profession. There are also to be annual education for work awards sponsored by Motorola.
Support materials are to be produced by the Scottish Consultative Council on the Curriculum, and staff development will be provided by the National Centre: Education for Work and Enterprise.
The Inspectorate, which warns against reliance on “the endeavors of a few enthusiastic staff”, found that almost all the aspects looked at under education for work were good or very good in the 28 schools inspected - although this was hardly surprising since they were chosen for their good practice.
The inspectors did find occasions when some schools were not doing as well as they thought they were, usually because of staff changes. “This confirms the need to ensure that education for work has a secure place in the policies and practices of all schools,” the report states.
