Young people aged 14-19 studying design and technology subjects may enter projects for The Young Persons Award for Innovation, which will be judged for inventiveness and potential for commercial development.

Regional semi-finals will be held in September and the final in Wolverhampton on November 9. Supported and organised by more than 150 Midland Rotary Clubs, the competition aims to promote manufacturing as a career. Three winners will receive bursaries of Pounds 2,000, advice on exploiting their invention commercially, and a 16-week residential business course followed by a 16-week placement with a European-based company. Details: Basil Gardner, Rotarian, tel: 01527 542102 or George Foster, Business Link Dudley, tel: 01384 868000.
