An awards scheme to recognise good use of information and communications technology (ICT) in the classroom was launched at BETT. Lord Dennis Stevenson announced the BECTA initiative, supported by The TES and sponsored by BT Education. He said the new ICT in Practice awards will reward quality practice: “Technology needs teachers more than teachers need technology. Together, they will transform the way all learners are taught, and spearhead the UK’s ability to develop and thrive in the 2st century.”
There will be both primary and secondary awards for ICT in practice in school management, special educational needs and subject teaching. The fourth is advice and support for ICT in practice. Each winner will receive pound;2,500, with pound;2,500 for their school or organisation. A prospectus outlining the criteria for the awards will be launched at the Education Show in Birmingham next month. Judging is scheduled for October, with the winners announced at BETT 2001.
