A VIRULENT strain of a respiratory bug which spreads through hospitals and can affect babies and toddlers could reach epidemic proportions this winter, warned scientists at Imperial
College, London.
Professor Peter Openshaw said the respiraory syncytial virus, (RSV) was mutating into a more dangerous form but no one knew why. He said 65 per cent of babies are infected with RSV before their first birthday and one in 20 of those would develop a serious lung condition later on.
