Badminton Scotland, the game’s governing body, has broken new ground by appointing a leading Bulgarian coach to oversee the development of the top junior players here.

Diana Koleva, aged 44, was previously ranked among the world’s top 20 badminton players and has 70 international titles to her name. She took over as junior high performance coach last month and will work with players aged 11-17.

“It’s an exciting prospect because, in particular, it is the first time we have reached down to players as young as 11,” said Leon Douglas, Badminton Scotland’s programme manager.
