I note the letter from Tom Trust of Redruth who said that Aberdare Girls’ School cannot afford 10 per cent of its annual budget to line the pockets of the legal profession after excluding a pupil for wearing a Sikh bangle (Letters, April 24).

I agree. It was obvious to me, a returner to Cardiff after 17 years as an adviser and inspector in London and 10 years’ teaching in the Midlands, that the school was going to lose its case. The local authority made this clear through its refusal to back the governors. Mr Trust, perversely, suggests that Liberty should be taken to court for defending the girl. I suggest that it is the chair of governors and the head who should consider their position.
