The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Chichester is expanding its programme for children with learning difficulties, which is supported by Barclays. For children with low literacy levels there will be Shakespeare and Chaucer days. In April, The Groundlings Theatre Company will introduce Macbeth to 14-year-olds, an apothecary will make witches’
spells and specialists in historic cooking will prepare authentic food.
Other groups will re-enact The Canterbury Tales, again with medieval recipes. Children with moderate learning difficulties can join fire and light sessions (charcoal burning and summer dances) or harvest celebrations (watermilling and bread making).
