Baughan again

So farewell then, Mike Baughan. The chief executive of Learning and Teaching Scotland departed at the top - well, near the top, giving evidence to MSPs (page 6).

He might have been prepared to explain just what his job was. But the first query from parliamentary education committee convener Robert Brown was less expected. “We welcome Mike Baughan OBE. I am not sure how to pronounce that.”

Assuming this was not a reference to Mike, Baughan helpfully told him it was “born.” Not many people know that.

No such confusion over the next witness - a chap called Bloomer.

And if you are BBC Young Musician of the Year Nicola Benedetti, there is also no confusion. Baughan is her Uncle Mike. Not many people know that.
